Infection Prevention and Control

At Footopia, we take the health and safety of our patients and staff very seriously. This means that we do our utmost to prevent the spread of infections within our clinic by following Ontario’s Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) practices and regulations.

During your visit, our practitioners have access to medical-grade personal protective equipment such as gloves, masks and face shields to perform all manners of treatment safely. Gloves especially are changed for each patient and as needed, and hand-washing stations as well as hand sanitizer are made readily available.

When your appointment ends, all high-contact surfaces are cleaned and disinfected. This includes the podiatry chair, the wheeled cart that holds all instruments and creams, and the handle of the podiatry drill.

Reusable instruments employed by the practitioner are then brought to our sterilization station, where they get cleaned, disinfected and steam-sterilized. This reprocessing ensures that all pathogens have been killed, making them safe to use again. The disposable blades are kept in special puncture-resistance containers then disposed of as per sharps disposal guidelines.

Additionally, our towels are washed with bleach at high temperatures to disinfect them properly after each use.

As with our approach to treatments, prevention is the best cure!
